How to adjust headlights yourself

You can achieve the desired result by performing four actions:

Self-adjusting the headlights differs from professional adjustment at a service station by the absence of a marked canvas with basic dimensions. Instead, a solid wall without windows and doors or a brick fence will suffice. The distance from the bumper edge to the vertical surface should be at least 7.5 meters, so when choosing a wall, this detail must be taken into account.

The marking for adjusting the car's headlights consists of five parallel lines - two horizontal and three vertical. The first line is the axis - the center of the car's symmetry, perpendicular to the surface. Parallel vertical lines are drawn on either side of it, coinciding with the centers of the headlights. Horizontal strip #1 is also drawn along the central line of the lights at the corresponding height from the ground. Line #2 is drawn 5 cm below.

Once the "stand" is marked and the iron horse is installed in front of it, make sure that the optics are on a level horizontal axis. This involves checking tire pressure, suspension spring elasticity, and the platform on which the procedure takes place. Any tilt to one side by a couple of centimeters during manual headlight adjustment will affect the illumination of the road surface. If one side of the body is higher than the other for some reason, the angle of illumination will be incorrect.

The surface of the lighting units must be cleaned of dirt and dust to ensure nothing interferes with the beam. The preparatory stages are now complete, and you can proceed to the actual headlight adjustment. Start by turning on the low beam.

How to properly adjust headlights

Each front lighting object has adjustment screws. These screws are used to set the angle of the bulb in the socket, redistributing the beam and its direction. Ideally, the areas up to line #2 should be illuminated on the stand - this is the light boundary. Before adjusting the headlight beam, it is important to know the basic principle - the optics of all vehicles are set up so that the beams go to the right in right-hand traffic and to the left in left-hand traffic. This is designed to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. The inclined segments must start at the points of intersection of the vertical marks of the center and horizontal line #1.

Adjusting the headlights manually is done one at a time and separately. By turning the adjustment screws on the back side of the headlights (you will need to open the hood), you need to achieve perfect results. After that, move on to the high beam.

Before adjusting the lenses in the headlights, familiarize yourself with the instructions for these products. Some models are equipped with devices with automatic or motorized angle adjustment. If the lens optics do not allow for adjustment, then in case of a malfunction or breakdown, both headlights will need to be replaced. In general, the principle of adjusting the lenses in the headlights is based on rotating the adjustment screws.

• The device is set up using a water level, and the vehicle is adjusted relative to it
• Setting the beam angle with accuracy to tenths of a degree, along with the vehicle's optics
